What you can do on our programs in Sri Lanka:
• Teach Conversational English from 2 weeks to 6 months. Work with children and adults who benefit enormously from your help! Our volunteers have helped to improve significant sections of the local community schools, enabling more children to have access to education. Our schools are for the poorer children and the underprivileged section of the community and you can teach a range of subjects - anything that you have a reasonable knowledge in. You don't need any qualifications to do this teaching project.
Our largest teaching programme runs in JA-ELA, midway between Colombo and the popular Indian Ocean resort of Negombo. We also have a UNIQUE RURAL TEACHING PROJECT in Wasgamuwa, the heart of this amazing country!
You can combine a two-month teaching placement with one-month at the Elephant Orphanage. This is very popular so reserve your placement very early to avoid disappointment.
• Coach Sports: Travellers was lucky enough to have a group of five volunteers with lots of initiative who all went to Sri Lanka at the same time to coach football to the children. This project was so hugely successfully and the children loved so much that we've now decided to continue it as an ongoing project! It has been decided to keep this Tournament as an annual event and Travellers sponsors it, which is why we're now looking for volunteers with an interest in football to carry on coaching the children. As a volunteer sports coach with Travellers, we have arranged for you to get a year s free subscription to a Coaching website: www.grassrootscoaching.com. With this membership (which normally comes with a price tag of 39.99), you automatically become a member of the International Coaches Association (ICA) and join a community of coaches from over 65 countries.
&bull Conservation Projects: Work with a variety of animals at the Colombo Zoo in the capital city of Sri Lanka. The Zoo has a tremendous variety of animals. It is a beautiful zoo set amongst acres of lush Sri Lankan vegetation. The nature of your work will vary according to what is required every day and also the Zoo s needs in general during the period of time that you re there. This project is for animal lovers and people who don't mind hard work and getting their hands dirty.
The Elephant Orphanage: Our Elephant Orphanage Experience programme is based in Sri Lanka's most famous government-run Orphanage which is home to retired, abused or orphaned Elephants. Altogether around 70 Elephants are based there. Working hours are quite short and you certainly won't be overloaded with work, so you'll have plenty of time to sightsee and explore.
• Work Experience: Participating in a Work Experience placement is a unique way to observe experts in your field and learn how they work. The experience you gain will be invaluable to you in the future and totally different to what you're used to in your home country. We ll make it easy, safe and fun for you to do a Law or Journalism Work Experience Placement. You don t need any qualifications or experience for these projects, just an enthusiasm to learn and an interest in how the business works in Sri Lanka.
• Something Different! RELAX AND BE INSPIRED AT A SRI LANKAN BUDDHIST MEDITATION RETREAT. This extra programme can be combined with any project in Sri Lanka. We have lots of "off the wall" projects to make your time overseas even more exciting!
No qualifications are required to volunteer - just enthusiasm to help and a desire to experience a new culture, from the inside.
Travellers projects are very flexible (2 weeks - 1 year) and varied. All your food and accommodation and in country transfers and transportation are included in the cost as well as excellent 24/7 support and back up staff. You will receive plenty of preparation information and support before your departure and Travellers will keep in touch throughout your project to ensure you are happy and well on your placement.
Your volunteering contribution benefits the community and provides a lifetime experience that is safe and structured for the volunteer.
If you would like to APPLY FOR A PLACEMENT on one of the programmes, please fill in the form on our website (http://www.travellersworldwide.com/application.htm ) - we will contact you very shortly to discuss your placement and we'll also send you confirmation documentation. This will be followed up with detailed information about your placement once it has been arranged and tailored and suit you.
