General Program Information

YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) is an international social volunteer organization and with a network of 123 countries. In Japan, it is known as the social educational organization which has been making positive contributions to society in 35 cities including Tokyo and Osaka.

The Kumamoto YMCA started a Japanese Language Education Service in 1979 and has since become a center for Japanese study and cultural exchange between Japanese people and students from all over the world. In 1990, the Kumamoto YMCA Japanese Language School was established and was authorized as an official Japanese Language Education provider. More than 500 students have studied here, many making use of their Japanese by going on to study at Japanese universities or obtaining jobs with Japanese companies.

The purpose of our school is to train students in the Japanese language to a level, which will enable them to enter college or university in Japan, or work in their chosen profession in Japan. We also hope to offer the opportunity to develop an understanding of each county's history and culture and to cement friendships whilst at promoting international understanding.
